Studying current events helps us understand the importance of people, events, and issues in the news. It stimulates us to explore and learn more about the world around us!
Current events are necessarily relevant and provide connections to all curriculum areas. As students read and discuss current events, they analyze point of view, evaluate text claims, and determine the important ideas within a text. And news stories are generally short texts — perfect for shared reading at school and at home. |
Each week, scholars will read one, grade appropriate, news article chosen by teacher. Afterwards, students will discuss the significance, wonderings, opinions, and how our thinking has changed.
